MUGAMOODI – THE MASK UNVEILED

Starring: Jeeva, Narain, Nasser, Pooja hedge
Direction: Mysskin
Cinematographer: Sathya
Music: Krishna Kumar

‘Grave themes are portrayed in the most intellectual and unsurpassed way which could almost tear heart of the viewers ‘ this was the expectations from Mysskins prior films but ‘’Mugamoodi’’ failed to do righteousness to his fanatics. The movie starts off well with thriller background music, dark and low angle shots which impose assumption to the crowd about the grave subject from Mysskin for which they crave sitting in edge of the seat. But the interest in the film survived only till the audience ordered for popcorn.

Jeeva continues his ability in choosing his movies with prominent roles. Anand (Jeeva) aka Bruce lee who is a kung fu proficient trained by his master Chandru, whom he respects utmost by offending people messing up with him. The movie starts with burglars using high technologies for their missions by killing people for wealth. Gaurav (Naaser) is appointed by Tamil Nadu police to unravel this mysterious gang. In-between (Anand) lee falls in love with Gaurav’s daughter who is found to be girl with dynamic attitude. ‘Bar anthem’ song rejoices party crowd which was seemed to be appealing.

‘Super hero ‘outfit was chosen by the protagonist just to attract his love interest in different way but circumstances made him to be a real super hero ‘Mugamoodi’ with art of kung fu. The burglars who also wore mask are trained in martial arts by Angusamy (Narain). The scene when Anand (lee) establish his skill and passion for kung fu in a fish market boosted the expectations of the second half. Narain train burglars in the name of dragon kung fu school who even go to an extent of killing people to loot their wealth but the emotional quotient was totally missing in that particular plot.

The love sequence between Anand (lee) and Shakthi (Pooja hedge) was more dramatic. Gaurav (Nasser) who is appointed to investigate these murders is unproductive and his character was totally wasted. Jeeva (anand) has given his best which was evident on screen with his professional martial art skills .Transition from a kung fu trained guy to ‘Mugamoodi ‘was portrayed well. Cinematographer Sathya done a flawless job and screenplay was in typical Mysskin style which was the only thing to be noted worthy. Director could have taken efforts to make second half more interesting and fast which would have given a very positive verdict. Overall the much expected ‘Mugamoodi’ fall short to impress people as expected.

Verdict: worth  watching once.

ATTAKATHI – MOVIE REVIEW

Starring: Dinesh, Swetha
Direction: Pa Ranjith
Music: Santhosh Narayanan
Production: CV Kumar
Attakathi –turns out to be a sharp sword. Love stories have been the most repeated concepts in Kollywood industry. But still some directors try to do justice by working on different story-line  ’Attakathi‘is an out of the box love story which revolves around a guy who resides in sub urban region of Chennai. It’s a humorous flick which conveys people to overcome love failures with ease and move on as another love may follow us eventually.

‘Dinesh ‘who made small appearance in national award winning film aadukalam , has done lead role in this flick. He has exposed his innocence and maturity in acting with a perfect balance. Dhinakaran(dinesh)  ends in tutorial college as he could not get through in his class 12 English subject. He is guy who tries to be optimistic about his life and go on footboards to try his luck over girls. His acquaintances do the same and meet regularly in a spot where they discuss about each ones love life. ‘Poornima’ a girl in outskirts of Chennai boards the same bus of Dheena. But it was not a typical romantic sequence as it was meant to be; the first word spoken by Poornima to him is ‘Anna’ (brother). In a few minutes, dheena tries to win heart of other girls those who pass by his sight but his efforts goes unavailing which disappoints him to a great extent. Based on this ground, his friends tag him as ‘atta-kathi’. In-between Dheena joins karate classes just to impress girls and to be safe in his attempts.
Transition from Dheena to ‘route thala’ during his college days with a rugged look, has been portrayed well. Foot tapping numbers without using high tech music instruments added a different flavor to the movie. Kudos to music director was such an attempt which handled the pace of the movie on form. Twist happens when ‘Poornima’ his first love interest joins the same college, where dheena pursue his third year which is noted to be worthy. Everything may seem to be on familiar track, but the climax proves you wrong which make the movie to be out of the box.
Overall, Attakathi is a sharp edged knife with a light hearted script coagulated more with humor and definitely a good hang out with friends on weekend.
